CamScanner

Recently, we had to have our van towed to a new, recommended mechanic. The van needed some brake work to pass state inspection, and we had received a prior estimate from our regular mechanic. My husband needed the original estimate to send to the new mechanic. I don't have a fax machine, so I used the CamScanner app to take a picture of the estimate.
I then selected the "magic color" option, and my photo changed into a clear, crisp document. I emailed it to my husband, who faxed it to the mechanic. It took no more than 5 minutes.

Great app! Recommended. Price: Free.

Walgreens

I'm sure this is not the only pharmacy that has an app, but it is the pharmacy I use. I just refilled a prescription FROM MY BED last night by scanning my prescription bottle. It was a super shaky scan, and it took! Refill was

ready this morning! The app has lots of shopping info as well, but I primarily use it to locate pharmacies when traveling and to refill prescriptions. As a very busy mom, this is a super-time saver! Recommended. Price: Free.

iTorch4

This is a flashlight app. It uses the camera's flash as the light. It is very bright. I have used it well in the dark. Just this week I used it to try to see in the back of my daughter's throat. It works great! Caveat: This app works only on the iPhone 4. Recommended. Price: Free

Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List App

I am not one to plan meals. I like to have a well-stocked pantry and generally buy the best meat for the best value. My dinner plans usually start with pulling something out of the freezer and heading to Epicurious.com to find a recipe. I have not been disappointed yet!

The Epi app makes it even easier to access Epicurious.com's more than 3million recipes with an extensive search feature that returns results lightning fast. (Search by Main Ingredient, Meal/Course, Dietary Consideration, Dish Type, or Season/Occasion... and that's not all!) Each recipe is rated up to four forks, and all reviews are available for reading. If I love a recipe, I can make it my favorite for future usage. Additionally, on the rare days I plan (like Thanksgiving), I enjoy the shopping list feature, which creates an editable shopping list for the selected recipes. I use this app in the kitchen as well as in the grocery store. I love it so much, it has replaced almost all of my recipe books!
HIGHLY Recommended. Price: FREE (Upgrade to Sync Your Recipe Box for $1.99 - Although I am completely satisfied with the free version, I have upgraded because I have found so many recipes I love!)

iLearn - Solar System 2

This is an excellent app for learning information about the solar system. (It does not include Pluto!) Love the graphics and interaction. Correct answers are rewarded with praise and "stickers". Very popular amongst my students! Recommended. Price: $1.99

Bob Books App

I downloaded this app for my 6 yr old. She thought the app was fun, but it was far from challenging. She had gone through all options in about 15 minutes and was bored. The app only includes the first of the Bob Books. While my daughter may be more advanced than the app's target audience, for the price, I would expect the app to be much more extensive given the material. I would stick with the lite version and save your money. NOT Recommended. Price: $1.99

NCAA March Madness on Demand

It's my favorite time of the year! March Madness! Pick your brackets; watch every game; alerts for potential upsets, upset finals, close games inside 5 minutes, OT games; scores/schedule; up-to-date brackets; social media. I hope this app lives up to the hype! I'll let you know if it doesn't. Recommended. Price: FREE

ClemsonAlum App

New app for Clemson University alums. Chock full of info! Recommended. Price: FREE

MoonPhase - Moon Info

Today, we learned about the phases of the moon. I wanted an app to track the moon each day throughout the year. This app tells us what phase the moon is in; when it rises and sets; where it is located in the sky; etc. It has a feature for the Zodiac, but that feature is not relevant to our interests. It is easy for my girls to use. Recommended. Price: $1.99

And We're Off!

Today is the maiden entry for "iPhone Apps I Used Today". I am a student of life, as well as a mother of 6, a home educator, an attorney, an author, a cook, a cleaner, a chauffeur, etc. I love my iPhone! It has put the world at my fingertips. I am by no means a "techie"; I am just an avid user. Almost everyday, I find a new app that has satisfied some curiosity or need to know. I generally think "What a great app!", but sometimes it is "What a waste of time or money." So this is my forum for sharing app info. Please join me and comment or share what apps you are using!
